Hey everyone! This week, we’re going to focus on our mental health. Meditation is a great way to bring balance into our lives by bringing about a feelings of peace and relaxation. This week, I’d like us to commit to two 5-minute meditations. As the weeks go by, I’ll be revisiting this topic, and the length and commitments will increase, hopefully until it becomes a part of our daily routines.
There exist different meditative practices, and I’m only familiar with a few. Thankfully, my Sensei has offered meditation classes at our temple. I’ve also picked up a few tips from books and other sources. Probably the easiest practices are those we refer to as loving kindness meditations. I’ll be posting a sample loving kindness meditation, developed by my Sensei, in the next few hours.
Mindfulness meditation is another practice I have some familiarity with. Good examples can be found here and here. Jon Kabat-Zinn is one of the most prolific authors on mindfulness meditation. WPL has a number of his books and audiobooks. If you’re interested, you can even watch a session he gave on mindfulness at Google HQ.
